Reno-Tahoe event lands title sponsor

Barracuda Networks Inc. signed a four-year contract to be the title sponsor of what has been known as the Reno-Tahoe Open at Montreux Golf & Country Club in Reno, Nev., the PGA Tour announced.

The Barracuda Championship will be played July 31-Aug. 3 on the Jack Nicklaus-designed course at Montreux. It is an opposite-field event played the same week as the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, which has a limited field.

“The important thing to note here is the investment is significant and it’s for at least four years,” tournament director Chris Hoff said. “I don’t want to say it legitimizes us, but it certainly elevates us.

“We’ve got a global, publicly traded company that not only realized the value of the PGA Tour, but is yet another company that recognizes the Reno-Tahoe area and what a fantastic place this is to live, work and play.”

The 16-year-old tournament has been searching for a title sponsor since it was played as the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open in 2008 and 2009.

Barracuda Networks, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializes in computer data storage and security systems.
