Re-Start of LPGA Season Delayed One Week

The LPGA Tour announced on Friday that the re-start of its 2020 season has been pushed back at least a week with the cancellation of the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, which was scheduled for July 15-18 at Midland Country Club in Midland, Mich.

The season now is set to begin the following week with the Marathon Classic Presented by Dana at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio, on July 23-26, depending on the status of the Coronavirus pandemic at that time.

“While we are disappointed that the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational will not be held this year, I am excited that our friends at Dow have extended our relationship and will be hosting us in Midland for many years,” LPGA Tour Commissioner Mike Whan said.

“As I’ve said since this pandemic started, while we will do all we can to play safely in 2020, the most important thing is to ensure the long-term health of our Tour. We are very thankful to the team at Dow for their ongoing and extended support. The 2019 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational was an incredible addition to our schedule, and I’m excited to see what they bring to the table in 2021.”

Dow has agreed to extend its contract with the LPGA Tour, but the statement did include the additional number of years.

The Shoprite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer is set for July 30-Aug. 2 on the Bay Course at Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, N.J., before the LPGA Tour is scheduled to head to Europe for three weeks.

The Evian Champions at Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les Bains, France, is scheduled for Aug. 6-9, followed by the Aberdeen Standard Investment Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, on Aug. 13-16, and the Women’s British Open at Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, Scotland, on Aug. 20-23.

The ANA Inspiration, traditionally the first major of the season, has been rescheduled for Sep. 10-13 on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, and the only other tournament scheduled in California this season is the Kia Classic at Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad on Sept. 24-27.

There is no guarantee that fans will be able to attend any of the tournaments.
