Matt Rafter of Industry Hills Golf Club in the City of Industry won the Southern California Golf Association’s 44th Tournament of Club Champions by three strokes over Danny Thogmartin of Mission Trails Golf Course in San Diego and Andy Alvarez of Santa Anita Golf Course in Arcadia at The Oaks Club at Valencia https://www.oaksclubvalencia.com in Santa Clarita.
The 20-year-old Rafter, who collected three birdies on each nine including two in a row on the 15th and 16th holes while shooting 3-under-par 69, is a junior who transferred to Cal State Fullerton last fall after winning the CCCAA Championship for Cypress College.
Thogmartin, the 2016 SCGA Tournament of Club Champions winner, birdied the last two holes to shot 69 and share second with Alvarez, who reeled off five birdies in a span of seven holes on the back nine.
Jarod Zastrow of Golf Southern Cal Club totaled 74 to tie for fourth with Johnny Gonzalez of Bonita Golf Club and Fidel Rodriguez of Catalina Golf Club in on Santa Catalina Island.
Brian Barcelona of Crystalaire Country Club in Llano finished at 75 to tie for seventh with Brett Bockman of Redlands Country Club, Dick Engel of Rancho Vista Golf Club in Palmdale and Erick Liscio of Temecula Creek Golf Club in Riverside.
