Porter Wins 104th San Francisco City Title

Charles Porter, a native of San Francisco, captured the 104th San Francisco City Men’s Championship with a 7-and-5 victory over Domingo Jojola of Carmichael in the scheduled 36-hole final at TPC Harding Park http://www.tpc.com/hardingpark.

Porter (pictured in Amateurgofl.com photo), who will turn 21 this month, chipped in for a birdie on the 15th hole to take a 2-up lead in the morning 18, and the lead grew to 3-up when Jojola, 33, drove into the trees and made a bogey on the 18th hole.

“I had a game plan (in the afternoon) because he is such a good player that I wanted to hit fairways and give myself putts for birdie,” Porter told Amateurgolf.com. “And it worked well.”

Porter, a freshman at Napa Valley College who attended Gateway High in San Francisco, built a 5-up lead after five holes in the afternoon and made a par on the 13th hole to close out the match.

Emily Hou, a 15-year old from Dougherty High in San Ramon, claimed the Women’s Division with a 3-and-2 victory over Andrea Gomez of Santa Clara while playing in the San Francisco City for the first time.

Hou took command with birdie putts of eight feet on the 10th hole and 15 feet on the 11th in the afternoon 18 before wrapping things up with a par at No. 16.

Defending Senior Division champion Jim Knoll of Sunnyvale took a 4-up lead into the back nine of his scheduled 18-hole final match against Larry Salk of Fairfax and took the title again, 5 and 4.

Soran Lim of Villa Park took home the title in the Women’s Senior Division by slipping past Kelly Simpson of Dublin, 1 up, while Herb Jensen of Carmichael won the Super Senior Division by beating David Bosley of Fairfield, 2 and 1.
