Corey Pereira of Cameron Park closed with a 3-under-par 67 and coasted to an eight-shot victory over Matt Hansen of Los Osos and Lorens Chan of Honolulu in the 48th annual Pacific Coast Amateur Championship at Pine Valley Club in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Pereira, who will be a sophomore at the University of Washington, blew the tournament wide open by shooting bogey-free 8-under-par 62s in the second and third rounds, carding three eagles and 12 birdies in those 36 holes.
After starting his tournament with bogey-triple bogey, Pereira finished with a score 70-62-62-67–261, 19-under.
Hansen, a graduate of UC Davis, posted a score of 69-69-65-66–269, while Chan, a junior at UCLA, finished at 67-63-69-70–269.
Mark Anguiano of Whittier and Cal State Fullerton shot 65-66-68-71–270 and tied for fourth with Andrew McCain of Minneapolis, out of the University of Maryland, who came in at 62-70-69-69–270.
Anguiano, Jonathan Sanders of Chatsworth and Byron Meth of San Diego, representing the Southern California Golf Association captured the Morse Cup competition by one stroke over the defending champion Northern California Golf Association.
