Hira Naveed of Pepperdine captured the individual title and led the Waves to the West Coast Conference Women’s Championship at Manito Golf and Country Club www.manitocc.com in Spokane, Wash.
Pepperdine collected its record 18th WCC women’s golf title with a score of 298-294-285—877, 5-over-par, followed by Brigham Young at 300-293-287—880, San Francisco at 310-286-292—888, Gonzaga at 292-302-304—898 and Santa Clara at 306-314-306—926.
“This championship means a lot,” Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said after the Waves claimed their first title of the season that includes five finishes in the top five. “We knew it was going to be tough out there. We knew we had to play well today.
“It means everything and I’m so proud of our seniors, led by Hira. They played flawless today coming down the stretch. Hira has had a great year and to go out there and play like she did, we really needed it.”
Naveed, a senior from Australia, posted a score of 74-70-68—212, 1-under, while Rose Huang of Brigham Young was second at 75-73-68—216, followed by Annika Borrelli of San Francisco at 74-71-72—217, Sarah Busey of Santa Clara at 73-74-71—218 and Naomi Soifua of Brigham Young at 73-73-74—220.

“Today that was key on 11, 12 and 13, where I made the eagle. Positive thoughts, mentally I kept it together, and finished strong.”
