Noh is U.S. Women’s Am medalist in Oakland

Yealimi Noh of Concord was the Northern California medalist in qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, shooting 4-under-par 66 at Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland.

The 16-year-old Noh’s victory came a week after she captured the California Junior Girls’ State Championship for the second time in four years. She has turned down a scholarship to UCLA and plans to turn pro next year.

Noh led the field at Sequoyah with seven birdies, including three in a row from the fifth through seventh holes and led nine players advanced to the championship U.S. Women’s Amateur on Aug. 6-12 at The Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn.

Yoohnee Kim of Concord San Ramon was second at 68, followed by Han Hsuan Yo of Taiwan at 70 and Kayla Sam of Anaheim Hills at 71, while Sabrina Iqbal of San Jose shot 72 to tie for fifth with Simar Singh of Los Altos and Quynn Duong of San Jose.

Ashley Shim of San Mateo totaled 73 to tie for eight with Tze Han Lin of Taiwan.

Bella Setio of Rancho Santa Fe tied for medalist honors, with Rose Zhang of Irvine and Suzuka Yamaguchi with 70s to lead seven qualifiers in the Southern California event at Bernardo Heights Country Club in San Diego.

Olivia Canales of Calabasas shot 71 to tie for fourth with Amy Matsuoka of Newport Beach, Haley Moore of Escondido and Ysabel Tran of Rancho Santa Margarita.

In qualifying at Shaker Hills Golf Club in Harvard, Mass., Allisen Corpuz of Hawaii and USC shot 68 to tie for medallist honors with Stephanie Lau of Fullerton.

Kailie Vonsaga of Diamond Bar shot 69 at Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla., to tie for medalist honors with Addie Baggarly of Jonesborough, Tenn.

At OGA Golf Course in Wodburn, Ore., Ty Akabane of Danville totaled 67 to tie for medalist honors with Ellie Slama of Salem, Ore., while Emilee Hoffman of Folsom also qualified with a 69 to finish third.

Katherine Zhu of San Jose shot 70 at Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell, N.J., to qualify in a tie for third, while Nancy Xu of Sunnyvale carded a 71 to tie for third and qualify at Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
