Demetria “Dede” Moriarty, head professional at Presidio Golf Course in San Francisco and Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, has been named recipient of the Northern California PGA’s 2015 Golf Professional of the Year Award.
This award is given annually by the NCPGA for the finest exhibition of spirit, determination, business acumen, professionalism, promotion of the game of golf as well as service to the section.
Moriarty is recognized a pioneer for women in the golf industry, as there were few of her gender in the game when she became a PGA Apprentice. She turned pro in 1987 and became the first female PGA Assistant Golf Professional at Lake Merced Golf Club.
Later, she became first head pro in San Francisco history at the Presidio Golf Course.
Moriarty is in her eighth year on the NCPGA Board of Directors and co-chairs the NCPGA Teaching Task Force, the Education Committee, and Women’s Division.
In addition, Moriarty serves as Vice President of the San Francisco Mayor’s Women’s Golf Council, with the goal of making San Francisco “The most women-friendly golf city in America.”
Moriarty has received numerous honors, including the 2011 NCPGA Horton Smith Award and the 1996 Palmer Head Professional of the Year award from the Arnold Palmer Golf Company.
The NCPGA will recognize Moriarty and 18 other winners of its 2015 awards on Dec. 6 at the NCPGA Special Awards Ceremony & President’s Dinner at Round Hill Country Club in Alamo.
