Morgan wins 26th California Senior Am

Mark Morgan of Shingle Springs came from two strokes down in the final round with a 2-under-par 69 to win the 26th California Senior Amateur Championship by six shots over David Nelson of Reno at Pauma Valley Country Club.

The 58-year-old Morgan, a USC graduate who plays out of Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills, pulled away with four birdies on the back nine.

“It feels really unbelievable,” said Morgan, who won the 2016 Senior Valley Amateur. “It was a long three days and I’m just blessed to be standing here as champion. I made double bogeys on all three days, but I came back from them and just hung in there.”

Morgan posted a score of 73-70-69—212, 1-under, followed by Nelson at 73-73-72—218.

Scott Anderson of Bakersfield carded a score of 72-77-70—219 to tie for third with Craig Davis of Chula Vista, who totaled 72-75—72—210, Kemp Richardson of Laguna Niguel, who finished at 73-76-70—219, Dan Sivadge of El Cajon, who wound up at 72-73-74—219, John Mack of Alta Loma, who shot 69-73-77—219, and Dan Dubois of Newport Beach, who came in at 71-70-78—219.

Tony Padilla of Sacramento was ninth at 75-72-73—220, while Adam Kugler of La Quinta shot 75-72-74—221 to tie for 10th with Randy Haag of Orinda, who finished at 73-74-74—221.
