Trevor McNary of Whittier claimed a six-stroke victory over three-time champion Mark Warman of San Clemente and Kethan Reddy of San Diego in the San Clemente Men’s Amateur Golf Championship at San Clemente Municipal Golf Course.
McNary, a senior at Cal State Fullerton who played at La Serna High in Whittier where he was a four-time league champion, held a one-stroke lead entering the final round before pulling away by making six birdies and an eagle at No. 11 against a single bogey on the last hole in his six-under-par 66.
The 20-year-old McNary posted a winning score of 68-66—144, 10-under-par, while Warman, who won this tournament in 2016, 2018 and 2019, finished at 74-66—140, and Reddy wound up at 74-66—140.
Bradley Smolinksi of Rancho Santa Margarita, carded a score of 71-70—141 to wind up in a big tie for fourth with Phil Luong of Santa Ana, who totaled 72-69—141, Aidan Valdez of San Clemente, who shot 71-70—141; Austin Trcka of Orange, who finished at 70-71—141, and Declan Lane of Temecula, who wound up at 69-72—141.
Daren Johnson of Covina was ninth at 71-71—142, while Nik Neal of San Diego shot 72-71—143 to tie for 10th with Billy Candler of Costa Mesa, who came in a 71-72—143.
Defending champion Arthur Hess of Rancho Santa Margarita totaled 78 in the first round and missed the cut.
Lou Carrascco of Anaheim claimed the Super Senior Division title with a score of 70-74—144, followed by Jeff Thomas of San Diego at 75-70—145, Gary Barker of Laguna Nigel at 74-72—146 and Greg Schweitzer of San Clemente at 75-78—153.
Dave Mazza of Chula Vista shot 79-76—155 to tie for fifth with Andy Overton of Lakewood, who finished at 78-77—155, and Jim Simpson of Dublin, who wound up at 81-74—155.
Scott Stewart of Carlsbad totaled 79-77—156 to tie for eighth with Don Odom of Costa Mesa, who shot 77-79—156, while Mark Sumida of Laguna Nigel finished 10th at 77-80—157.
