McEntee wins Northern California Senior Open

Shawn McEntee, a PGA Teaching Professional at Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa, Calif., won the Northern California Senior Open on Tuesday at Clear Creek Tahoe — one of Ben Crenshaw’s newest golf courses — in Carson City, Nev. McEntee, who is a San Jose, Calif. native, shot rounds of 69 and 70 to take home the title for one stroke over Stuart Smith of Somersett Country Club in Reno, Nev.

Smith trailed McEntee by two shots heading into Tuesday’s final round and fired a closing 69 but came up just a stroke short of tying McEntee and forcing a playoff.

The low amateur for the event was Clifford Smith of Denair, Calif., who was also low amateur in 2013. Smith was just three back after day one but shot 76 on Tuesday. His 148 total, however, was still good enough to tie for fourth place.
