Martin Claims Society of Seniors Founders Cup Title by Three Strokes

Dennis Martin, a native of Los Angeles. captured the Senior Division by three strokes over David Nelson of Littleton, Colo., in the Society of Seniors Founders Cup at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz.

The 57-year-old Martin, who runs the Venturi Golf Program at California Golf Club in South San Francisco and graduated from Cal, posted a score of 73-72-72—217, 1-over-par, while Nelson finished second at 69-75-76—220, followed by Stephen Maddalena of Jackson, Miss., at 73-70-78—221, and 2018 Senior Division champion Jon Valuck of Oklahoma City at 75-70-79—224.

Greg Goode of Salina, Kan., shot 73-73-79—225 to tie for fifth with Greg Sanders of Anchorage, Alaska, who totaled 74-76-75—225, while defending champion Randy Haag of Orinda, Calif., posted a score of 70-77-80—227 to tie for seventh with Jerry Rose of Sarasota, Fla., who wound up at 74-73-80—227, Kevin Vandenberg of Pulaski, N.Y., who finished at 71-78-78—227 and Steve McPherson of Hemet, Calif., who came in at 76-75-76—227.

Jim McNelis of Gig Harbor, Wash., claimed the Super Senior Division title with a score of 76-72-76—224, followed by Donald Reycroft of Chandler, Ariz., at 74-79-72—225, Robin Rubrecht of Newburgh, Ind., at 71-79-78—228, Marcus Beck of Tallahassee, Fla., at 78-77-74—229, and Sean Forey of Morrison, Colo., at 76-79-75—230.

John Hoffman of San Diego shot 78-73-81—232 to tie for sixth with Michael Arter of Lakeview, Mass., who wound up at 81-75-76—232.

Jody Vasquez of Aledo, Texas, won the Legend Division with a score of 73-78-73—224, followed by Evan Long of Charlotte, N.C., at 74-75-76—225, George Walker of Fairhope, Ala., at 79-73-75—227, Don Donatoni of West Chester, Pa., at 76-73-80—229, and Les Devitt of Scottsdale, Ariz., at 76-78-76—230.

George Dillon of Midland, Mich., was sixth at 78-75-80—233, followed by Dennis Younglove of El Macero, Calif., at 72-78-75—235.  

Robert Kulp of Savannah, Ga., totaled 73-72-80—225 to run away with the Grand Master Division title, while Richard Hunt of Bixby, Okla., was second at 77-75-82—234, while Joseph Rogers of Daly City, Calif., shot 79-76-82—237 to tie for third with Michael Mahoney of La Jolla, Calif., who finished at 74-79-84—237, Gil Stenholm of Burr Ridge, Ill., who totaled 79-78-80—237, and Steve Sander of Seattle, who wound up at 78-78-81—237.

Robbie Thompson of Merced, Calif., was seventh at 80-83-76—239.
