John Mallinger of Long Beach closed with a 6-under-par 66 to win the Oakley Southern California Open by four strokes over Matt Picanso of Vista at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point.
The 35-year-old Mallinger, who played at Long Beach State, posted a score of 66-64-66–196, 18-under, and collected $11,000.
Picanso was second at 64-69-67–200, followed by amateur Eli Cole of Beverly Hills at 68-69-64–201, Kenneth McCready of San Diego at 65-71-66–202 and Jeff Gove of La Quinta at 73-68-63–204.
Wil Collins of Albuquerque, N.M., shot 70-69-66–205 and tied for sixth with Geoff Gonzalez of Diablo, who finished at 71-67-67–205.
Michael Drake of Riverside totaled at 66-73-67–206 and tied for eighth with Niall Platt of Santa Barbara, who wound up at 67-67-62–206, Michael McCabe of Thousand Oaks, who finished at 70-64-72–206, and Austyn Karle of Scottsdale, Ariz., who came in at 71-65-70–206.
Defending champion Jason Gore of Valencia did not play because he is in the field for the Sanderson Farms Championship this week on the PGA Tour in Jackson, Miss.
