KK Limbhasut of Loma Linda and the University of California will be playing in his first PGA Tour event this week, having earned one of four spots available in Monday qualifying for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course www.torreypinesgolfcourse.com in La Jolla.
The 23-year-old Limbhasut, who won four times at Cal in addition to capturing the 2018 Amateur Golf.com Monterey Bay Championship and being the medalist at the first stage of 2019 Korn Ferry Q-school, carded four birdies on the back nine while shooting 5-under-par 67 to tie for third in qualifying at Bear Creek Golf Club http://bearcreekgc.com in Murrieta.
Then he advanced by making a birdie on the first playoff hole.
Limbhasut will be in a threesome with Michael Gligic and Nelson Ledesma in the first round on Thursday, teeing off at 1 p.m. on the 10th hole of the North Course at Torrey Pines.
Eddie Olson of Aptos and UNLV, who has won twice on lower tours, earned the fourth and final qualifying spot by also shooting 67, including a clutch birdie at No. 17, and then sinking a 25-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to beat out three others.
Olson will play alongside Chase Seiffert and Matthew NeSmith on Thursday, teeing off at 1 p.m. on the first hole of the North Course.
Harry Hall of England and UNLV shot 66 to tie for first in the qualifier with Jacob Bergeron of Slidell, La., and LSU, the 2019 PGA Tour Latinoamerica Q-School medalist, who made birdies on the last two holes.
Among those who failed to qualify were Sam Saunders (69), Charlie Beljan (69), Andrew Yun of Stanford (69), Josh Teater (70), Ricky Barnes of Stockton (71), Rico Hoey of Rancho Cucamonga and USC (71), Spencer Levin of El Grove (72), Akshay Bhatia of Northridge (73), Mike Weir (73) and Norman Xiong of Canyon Lake (75).
