Leonard and Graver recorded three eagles in the first round and led virtually from wire-to-wire while posting a score of 61-64—125, 19-under-par.
The Kims, who had 10 birdies on the first day, shot 63-63—126, with Juan Rodriquez and John Jackson of Catalina Golf Club on Catalina Golf Club finishing third at 63-65—128.
George Fisher and Denis Bein of Upland Hills Country Club in Upland totaled 64-65—139 to tie for fourth with Carl Chang and Eugene Kim of Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita at 63-66—139; Joe Plescia and Rick Reulbach of Brookside Golf Course in Pasadena at 66-63—139; Brent Byrne and Darren Cohen of Rancho Vista Golf Club in Palmdale at 63-66—139, and Ernie Anzures and Olivier Labarre of River View Golf Course in Santa Ana at 65-65—130.
Joseph Flores and Norbert Ruiz of Industry Hills Golf Club in the City if Industry were 10th at 66-65—131, while Ron Fernandez of Sunset Hills Country Club in Thousand Oaks, who won the title with Brian Graver last year, teamed with Peter Eyermann to tie for 20th at 70-65—135.
