Lenahan Wins FGC Tough As Steel Championship by 4 Over Sampson

Justin Lenahan of Temecula won the Men’s Division in the Future Champions Golf Tough As Steel Collegiate Championship by four strokes over Nathan Sampson, also of Temecula, in rainy conditions at Redhawk Golf Club in Temecula. 

Lenahan, a sophomore at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C., led much of the way after recording five birdies on the first eight holes of the opening round and posted a score of 67-77—144, 5-over-par, while Sampson wound up at 74-74—148. 

Zach Felts of St. George, Utah, was third at 73-77—150, followed by Jonathan Xavier Hartono of Jakarta at 79-77—156, Ben Cafferio of Wailuku, Hawaii, at 78-79—157, and Kamaljit Sing of Portland, Ore., at 82-76—158. 

Chayce Frye of Murrieta shot 84-75—159 to tie for seventh with Connor Scott of  
England, who finished at 80-79—159, and Andrew Chun Wei of Arcadia, who also finished at 80-79—159, while Natan Vickery of Temecula was 10th at 78-82—160. 

Erin Lee of Canada captured the Women’s Division with a score of 73-74—147, 3-under, followed by Gabby Minier of Santa Barbara at 75-74—149, and Amy DeKock of Palm Desert at 80-75—155. 

Breann Horn of Lakeside shot 83-73—156 to tie for fourth with Jessica Zhao of Canada, who finished at 79-77—156, while Tiffany Chang of Rancho Palos Verdes totaled 74-73—157 to tie for sixth with Amy Na of Chico, who came in at 82-75—157. 

HaYoun Lee of Henderson, Nev., was eighth at 83-75—158, followed by Katie Pyo of Fullerton at 81-79—160, while Claudia Zhang of Canada shot 81-81—162 to tie for 10th with Samantha Wang of Singapore, who finished at 78-74—162.
