Andrea Lee of Stanford holed a 20-foot birdie putt on the sixth playoff hole to beat teammate Casey Danielson for the women’s individual title as the Cardinal finished first in match-play qualifying in the second annual East Lake Cup at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
Lee, a freshman from Hermosa Beach who is ranked No. 7 in the nation, and No. 11 Danielson, a junior from Stuart, Fla., both finished regulation at 4-under-par 68, but Lee wound up with her second title in four starts at Stanford.
Fourth-ranked Stanford, which will play defending NCAA champion Washington on Tuesday in a rematch of the 2015 national final, posted a score of 6-under 282 to win by five strokes over fifth-ranked UCLA, which finished at 287, while Duke was third at 290, followed by Washington at 316.
In the other semifinal match, UCLA will face Duke.
Top-ranked Bronte Law of UCLA shot 70 to tie for third with second-ranked Leona Maguire of Duke, while Mariel Galdiano of UCLA posted a 71 to tie for fifth with Shannon Aubert of Stanford and Sandy Choi of Duke.
Clare Legaspi of UCLA was eighth at 72, while Wenyung Keh of Washington totaled 73 to tie for ninth with Ana Belac of Duke.
Lilia Vu of UCLA was 11th at 74 and Bethany Wu rounded out the Bruins’ scoring at 77 to finish 15th.
Sierra Kersten of Stanford was 12th at 75 and Albane Valenzuela wrapped up the Cardinal scoring in a tie for 13th at 76.
On the men’s side, second-ranked Vanderbilt claimed the team title at 282, followed by Texas at 287, No. 1 Illinois at 288 and defending national champion Oregon at 295.
In the match-play semifinals, Vanderbilt will meet Oregon and Texas goes against Illinois.
Scottie Scheffler of Texas captured the men’s individual title at 66, while Nick Hardy of Illinois shot 68 to tie for second with Will Gordon of Vanderbilt.
Eighth-ranked Doug Ghim of Texas was third at 69, followed by Michael Feagles of Illinois at 70, while top-ranked Wyndham Clark of Oregon totaled 71 to tie for fifth with Patrick Martin and his Vanderbilt teammate Theo Humphrey.
Sixth-ranked Matthias Schwab of Vanderbilt was ninth at 72, follow by another Commodore, John Augenstein, at 73.
Following Golf Central Pre Game at 11 a.m. EDT on Tuesday on the Golf Channel, the match-play semifinals will be telecast from 3-6 p.m., with the same schedule set for the final on Wednesday.
