Tain Lee of San Juan Capistrano finished in a tie for fifth in the Web.com Qualifying Tournament, closing with a 2-under-par 69 on the Champion Course at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
The 24-year-old Lee, a four-time All-American at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and the 2010 Division III individual champion, led after a first-round 7-under-par 65 and posted five scores in the 60s over the six rounds, struggling only when he shot 77 in round two.
Brad Fritsch of Canada closed with a 5-under-par 66 and claimed medalist honors by seven strokes, earning fully exempt status on the Web.com Tour for the 2015 season.
Andrew Landry of Austin, Texas, was second after a 68, followed by Dustin Bray of Asheboro, N.C., who closed with a 66, and Rhein Gibson of Australia, who finished at 68.
Andrew Yun, who played at Stanford, shot 71 to wind up in a tie for 16th, Ben Geyer of Arbuckle and St. Mary’s College in Moraga tied for 21st after a 69, 2014 NCAA champion Cameron Wilson of Stanford tied for 28th after a 72 and Jeff Gove of San Marcos and Pepperdine tied for 35th following a 74.
Every player in the field is guaranteed at least conditional status on the Web.com Tour, with the rest of the top 10 behind Fritsch being fully exempt until the third reorder. The rest of the top 45 and ties will be fully exempt until the second reorder.
