Jackson Lake, a high school senior from Clovis, played older than his years in beating the college players and other amateurs in the AmateurGolf.com Silicon Valley Amateur.
The 17-year-old Lake, who also won the 2018 Sandpiper Invitational, came from two strokes behind in the final round to claim the title by four strokes over Daniel Kim of San Jose and Redmond Lyons of San Francisco in windy conditions on the Tournament Course at Coyote Creek Golf Course https://coyotecreekgolf.com in Morgan Hill.
Lake, who has committed to Oregon State, collected five birdies and an eagle in the second round and posted a score of 70-67—137, 7-under-par, while Kim, who plays at UC Davis, finished at 69-72—141, and Lyons wound up at 70-71—141.
Tanner Hughes of Lodi and UC Davis shot 74-69—143 to tie for fourth with Thomas Hutchison of San Jose and UC Davis, who totaled 72-71—143, and Mickey Slesinski of Fremont and St. Mary’s, who came in at 71-72—143.
First-round leader Jae Kim of Davis and UC Davis finished at 68-76—144 to tie for seventh with Ryan Han of Davis, who wound up at 75-69—144, Ethan Farnam of Crystal Lake, Ill., who shot 70-74—144, and Connor Motherway of Reno, who totaled 73-71—144.
Emily Sumner of North Tustin and Santa Clara University claimed the Women’s Division title with a score of 78-76—154, followed by Audrey Kennett of Corte Madera at 82-76—158, while Clare Brady of Campbell shot 86-80—166 to tie for third with Marie Dean of Davis, who totaled 80-86—166, and Tammy Lin of Clovis was fifth at 82-88—170.
Rick James of San Jose took the Senior Division at 72-81—153, followed Jeff Britton of Carmel at 76-78—154, Greg Langford of San Mateo at 79-77—156, while Bobby Davis of Clovis shot 78-80—158 to tie for fifth with Rich Rowley of San Jose, who finished at 82-76—158.
