Iyer Wins the Grapevine Amateur by Four Strokes Over Siravo and Walsh

Avinash Iyer of San Ramon finally is a winner.

Iyer, a sophomore at San Jose State who finished second three times in 2023, came from three strokes behind in the final round to win the Grapevine Amateur by four shots over Brady Siravo of Sacramento and William Walsh of San Mateo on the North Course at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa.

After finishing second in the Amateur Golf.Com Winter Invitational, the Sacramento City Championship and the Santa Clara County Championship, Iyer posted a winning score of 70-69-64—203 this time by playing bogey-free in the final round , when  he made four birdies on each nine.

Siravo posted a score of 71-70-66-207 to tie for second with Walsh, who finished at 71-71-65—207, while third-round leader Michael Weaver of Fresno shot 66-70-72—208 to tie for third with Daniel Hayes of England, who wound up at 68-74-66—208.

Jack Jerge of Pleasant Hill posted a score of 69-71-69—209 to tie for sixth with Yilin Jusin Sun of China, who totaled 70-70-69—209, and Joshua Kim of La Palma, who came in at 69-70-70—209.

A.J. Fitzgerald of Salinas was ninth at 70-71-69—210, followed by Austin Wang of Danville at 66-71-74—211.

Defending champion Garrett Boe of Clovis finished in a tie for 22nd at 74-74-69—217.

The Grapevine Amateur Championship is part of Troon Saguaro Amateur Series, in which the next event will to be played will be the Sonoran Amateur Championship this week at Talking Stick Golf Course in Scottsdale, Ariz.
