Hutchison wins 69th Monterey City title

Thomas Hutchison of San Jose coasted to a five-stroke victory over three players in the 69th Monterey City Championship at Old Del Monte Golf Club in Monterey.

Hutchison, a sophomore at UC Davis, carded a score of 71-65-69—205, 11-under-par, to win after tying for fourth recently in the Memorial Amateur in Sacramento.

Billy Moon of East Garrison shot 72-69-69—210 to tie for second with Michael Slesinski of Fremont, who finished at 71-70-69—210, and Christian Banke of Danville at 70-72-68—210, while Will Strauss of LaJolla was fifth at 69-71-74—214, followed by defending champion Armand Melendez of Salinas and Sonoma State at 75-72-69—216.

Blake Hathcoat of Fresno and St. Mary’s, who won the Saguaro Amateur earlier this year, totaled 73-69-75—217 to tie for seventh with Joey Burlison of Salinas (73-70-74—217), Cameron Henry of Simi Valley (71-76-70—217), Simi Valley City champ Andrew Spilman of Simi Valley (76-71-70—217), and Ash Hakim of San Ramon (75-74-68—217), the reigning Sacramento City and Modesto City champion.

Casey Boyns won the Monterey City Senior Amateur at Del Monte by three shots over Bobby Schaeffer of Benicia.

Boyns finished at 72-73—145, followed by Schaffer at 74-74—148, Randy Haag of Orinda at 73-76—149, Jim Knoll of Sunnyvale at 74-74—150 and David Halvorson of Modesto at 76-76—152.
