Highly decorated amateur Tim Hogarth of Northridge captured the Pasadena City Amateur Championship for the second straight year and a record sixth time overall by four strokes over Brandon Gama of Santa Barbara at Brookside Golf Club.
The tournament, first played in 1929, was contested for the 83rd time.
The 52-year-old Hogarth, who also won the tournament that dates to 1937 in 2015, 2007, 2008 and 2009, recorded a score of 73-64-72—209, 5-under-par, while Gama, the 2008 Santa Barbara City champion who played at Chico State, was runner-up at 72-70-71—213.
Hogarth, who birdied the first two holes of the final round to pull away, also has won the seven Los Angeles City titles, the SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship and the Kelly Cup four times each. He also claimed the 1996 USGA Public Links Championship and the 1999 California State Amateur, in addition to numerous other titles since playing at Cal State Northridge.
Freddy Esparza of Alhambra was third at 75-67-74—216, followed by Tongun Lako LoSarah of Upland at 75-73-70—218.
Sapo King-Ramos of South Pasadena carded a score of 71-74-75—220 to tie for fifth with Niels Anderson of Santa Barbara, who shot 72-72-76—220, and Austin Briggs of San Clemente, who came in at 75-75-70—220.
Owen Calvin-Smith totaled 78-71-72—221 to tie for eighth with Jonathan Minkoff of Los Angeles, who finished at 76-69-76—221, while Luis Calderon of San Diego was 10th at 77-73-72—222.
Marni Murez of Manhattan Beach and the University of Santa Clara claimed the Pasadena Women’s title with a score of 71-74—145, followed by Madison Wood of Thousand Oaks and UC David at 72-76—148, while Kayla Yn of Arcadia and Cal State Northridge shot 74-80—154 to tie for third with Brittney Sok of Placentia and Cal State Fullerton, who wound up at 76-78—154.
Michelle Duan of Reno and Cal State Northridge was sixth at 77-78—155, followed by Linda Pearson of Glendale at 73-84—157, Kimberlee Tottori of Las Vegas at 76-82—158, Lexi Nielsen of Manhattan Beach and Sonoma State at 77-82—159, Pauline Welker of France and Cal State Fullerton at 81-79—160 and Carol Sarkissian of Chino Hills at 83-78—161.
