Tim Hogarth of Northridge captured the 98th Annual Los Angeles City Championship by five strokes at Rancho Park Golf Course, winning the L.A. title for the eighth time.
The 49-year-old Hogarth, who played at Cal State Northridge, carded a score of 66-70-71-71–278, with Jonathan Lai of San Jose second at 70-69-69-75–283, followed by Daniel Lopez of Los Angeles at 73-68-70-73–284.
“Winning never gets old,” Hogarth, who has won three times in recent weeks, told AmateurGolf.com. “It’s been a good run–wins in the Kelly Cup, Pasadena City and now L.A. City, as well as a loss in a playoff at the Simi City.
“The lead was down to one when I holed a bunker shot for par on 12. Then on 13, I hit a punch shot from the trees within two feet and an easy birdie. Those 10 minutes were the difference between losing and winning.”
Aaron Gomez of Compton shot 73-72-69-71–285 to tie for fourth with Sean Yu of Beaumont, who totaled 72-71-69-73–285, while Joshua Su of La Canada finished at 74-73-68-71–286 to tie for sixth with Justin Chong of Granada Hills, who came in at 75-72-70-69–286.
Eric Kim of Mission Hills was ninth at 70-70-72-75–287, and Ben Doyle of La Jolla posted a score of 72-76-70-71–289 to tie for ninth with Joshua Matz of Agoura Hills, who wound up at 72-74-71-72–289.
