Hall is medalist at 107th Cal State Amateur

Cody Hall of Wildomar claimed medalist honors by one stroke over Brad Reeves of Woodbridge in stroke-play qualifying in the 107th California State Amateur Championship on the Champions Course at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad.

The top 32 players advanced to the stroke-play portion of the even that will determine the champion.

Hall, who will be a senior at Cal State San Bernardino in the fall, posted a score of 73-66—139, 5-under-par, while Reeves, who plays at Arizona, finished at 69-71—140.

“I hit 17 greens today,” said Hall, who who won the 2014 Los Angeles City Match Play Championship and the 2015 Coronado City Amateur.  “I hit the ball nicely which was polar opposite of yesterday, made some putts. Everything just fell my way today.”

Hidetoshi Yoshihara and UCLA shot 71-70—141 to tie for third with Noah Woolsey and Pleasanton and Washington, who totaled 70-71—141, while David Kim of Buena Park finished at 73-69—142 to tie for fifth with Even Knight of Davis, who also wound up at 73-69—142, and Ryan Sloane of Campbell, who came in at 71-71—142.

Bobby Bucey of Concord shot 74-69—143 to tie for eighth with Corey Segal of Santa Clarita (70-73—143), Jacob Westberg of Sacramento (74-69—143), Tommy Stephenson of Oceanside (71-72—143), and Zihao Jin of San Diego (72-71—143).
