Brandon Hagy of Westlake Village led Monday qualifying for the Farmers Insurance Open this week at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla by shooting 7-under-par 65 at El Camino Country Club in Oceanside.
The 24-year-old Hagy, who was a two-time All-American at Cal, collected eight birdies to go with a single bogey. He helped the Golden Bears capture the 2013 NCAA Championship and tied for eighth in the individual standings.
“First time Monday qualifying into a PGA event! Excited to get the week started at @farmersinsopen!” Hagy said in a message on Instagram.
Hagy played in eight PGA Tour events last season, with his best finish a tie for 16th in the Puerto Rico Open.
Also qualifying were Chris Riley of San Diego, whose only PGA Tour victory came in the 2002 Reno-Tahoe Open, with a 66, Jeff Karlsson also at 66 and Casey Wittenberg with a 67.
