Stewart Hagestad of Newport Beach captured stroke-play medalist honors by one stroke over Brad Nurski of St. Joseph, Mo., in the 94th George A. Crump Memorial Tournament, also known as The Crump Cup, at famed Pine Valley Golf Club in Pine Valley, N.J.
The 27-year-old Hagestad, the 2017 AmateurGolf.com Mid-Amateur Player of the Year and the 2016 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion, posted a score of 69-72—141, 1-over-par, leading the way into match play to determine the tournament winner.
Nurski was second at 68-74—142, followed by Carlton M. Forrester of Atlanta at 72-71—143 and Danny Simmerman of Shavano Park, Texas, at 72-72—144, and Patrick Duffy of Omaha, Neb., at 72-73—145.
Matt Parziale of Brockton, Mass., shot 76-70—146 to tie for fifth with Nathan Smith of Pittsburgh (72-74—146), Andrew Price of Lake Bluff, Ill., (71-75—146), Denny Bull of Norwalk, Iowa (71-75—146), Jeronimo Esteve of Windermere, Fla., (70-76—146), and 2009 champion Skip Berkmeyer of Chesterfield, Mo., 68-78—146.
Jeff Burda of Modesto led qualifying in the Senior Division with a score of 73-71—144, while Dave Ryan of Taylorville, Ill., totaled 77-71—148 to tie for second with Gene Elliott of West Des Moines, Iowa, who finished at 74-74—148, and Oscar Mestre of Berwyn, Pa., who wound up at 72-76—148.
Allan Small of Savannah, Ga., shot 76-74—150 to tie for fifth with Matthew Sughrue of Arlington, Va., who totaled 73-77—150, and John McClure of Los Angeles was seventh at 75-76—151.
Steve Harwell of Mooresville, N.C., finished at 76-76—152 to tie for eighth with Alan Fadel of Toledo, Ohio, who wound up at 74-78—152 and George E. Marucci Jr. of Palm Palm Beach, Fla., who came in at 75-77—152.
