Randy Haag of Orinda simply keeps on winning.
The 63-year-old Haag made an eagle on the 18th hole and defeated Dennis Martin of Los Angeles to win in the inaugural Soboba Springs Senior Challenge at Soboda Springs Golf Course in San Jacinto.
“I hit maybe one of the best shots of my life into 18 to set up an eagle,” said Haag, who has won more than 100 Northern California Amateur Championship events and is a four-time NCGA Player of the Year. “I had 202 yards to the pin, 185 of which was over water. I hit a six-iron and it just soared up the mountain and I watched it roll to a foot and a half from the hole.
“Winning certainly never gets old, especially at my age.” Haag, who won the California Senior Amateur Championship each of the last two years among seven titles since 2020, carded a score of 70-74-67—211, two-under-par, while Martin was second at 73-69-70—212, while Jon Lindstrom of Broomfield, Colo., was third at 71-71-71—213. | |||||||||||||||
