Roger Gunn and Brett Mormann made an eagle on the final hole and captured the Southern California PGA Pinehurst Championship in a scorecard playoff with Jerry Wisz and Mickey Yokoi at Newport Beach Country Club.
Gunn, of Tierra Rejada Golf Club in Moorpark, and Mormann, of El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, also made an eagle on the 15th hole in a bogey-free round of 6-under-par 65.
Wisz and Yokoi, of Alhambra Golf Course, and made an eagle on the 15th hole, but their only bogey of the day at No. 17 proved to be costly in their 65.
Andrew Larkin of UCLA and Steve Holmes of Westlake Golf Course in Westlake Village were third at 66, while Kenny Pigman of Goose Creek Golf Club in Mira Loma and Michael Block of Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo shot 67 to tie for fourth with Alan Sorensen of Buena Vista Golf Course in Taft and Mike Fergin of Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa, Rick Garboski and Paul Holtby of Golf Development Complex in Moorpark, and Scott and Barry Mahlberg of Stadium Golf Center in San Diego.
Thomas Chu of Valencia Country Club and Jamie Puterbaugh of Aviara Golf Academy in Carlsbad totaled 68 to tie for eighth with Brian Smock and Chris Brown of Coronado Golf Course.
Alan Scheer of Steele Canyon Golf Club in Jamul and Grant Strobel of Carmel Mountain Ranch Golf Club in San Diego finished at 69 to tie for 10th with Cameron Carr and Eric Mitchell of Anaheim Hills Golf Course, Ryan Kennedy of Rustic Canyon Golf Course in Moorpark and Jon Fielder of Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo, Eric Riehle of UC Riverside and Jeff Munak of San Diego Country Club, Bruce Nakamura and Bob Knee of Aviara Golf Academy, and Mike Mitchell and Shane Ponchot of Hideaway Golf Club in La Quinta.
