Lauren Gomez of San Diego and Olivia Yun of Carlsbad led qualifiers for the 2019 United States Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship by four strokes at Western Hills Country Club http://www.golfwhcc.com in Chino Hills.
The 15-year-old Gomez (pictured), who won the 2017 CIF San Diego Section Girls’ Championship as a freshman at Point Loma High, and Yun, 16, the 2016 Escondido Junior Girls champion, posted a score of 4-under-par 68, the only twosome to break 70.
Holland Shourds of Riverside and Haley Tygret of Gardena also qualified by shooting 70 to tie for second with Jasmine Lew of Los Angeles and Charissa Shang of Calabasas, while Whitney Britton of Monarch Beach and Avery French of Laguna Niguel earned their spot in the national tournament with a 71.
Sabrina Nguyen of Escondido and Kayla Sam of Anaheim Hills totaled 72 to earn the final qualifying spot available at Western Hills in a playoff.
Also finishing at 72 to earn alternate status were Kathy Kurata of Pasadena and Caryn Wilson of Rancho Mirage, and Meghan Royal of Carlsbad and Sofia Choi of Littleton, Colo.
Qualifiers were held across the country for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship, which will be played Timuquana Country Club https://www.timuquana.net in Jacksonville, Fla., on April 27-May 1.
