Jim Furyk, who stands 16th in the FedEx Cup standings, withdrew from the Tour Championship two days before the start of the PGA Tour season finale at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta because of a left wrist injury.
Furyk, who claimed the FedEx Cup in 2010 by winning the Tour Championship, played six holes in the first round of the BMW Championship last Thursday before withdrawing because of the injury in hopes of playing this week.
“While I am disappointed to miss this week’s event in Atlanta, I am now placing all my efforts on being healthy and ready to play in the Presidents Cup,” Furyk said in a statement.
“(U.S. Captain) Jay Haas will be made aware of my progress in the coming days, as we see how the injury responds to treatment.”
Furyk is hoping to play for the eighth time in the Presidents Cup on Oct. 8-11 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club-Korea in Incheon City, Korea. If Furyk withdraws before Oct. 7, Haas will be able to select a replacement.
