CBS will not renew the contract of popular on-course analyst David Feherty, ending his run of 19 years with the network.
Sources said the two sides could not reach an agreement on his role moving forward.
Feherty called his last PGA tournament with CBS last weekend at The Barclays, opener of the FedEx Cup playoffs, according to the SportsBusiness Daily, which first reported the breakup.
The 57-year-old Feherty, a native of Northern Ireland, has his own show, “Feherty,” on the Golf Channel, which is owned by NBC, and there is speculation he will wind up with CBS’ rival network.
NBC has the rights to the Ryder Cup, the Olympics (with golf returning to the Games next summer at Rio de Janeiro) and the Open Championship beginning in 2017.
Feherty, known for his irreverent style, also could wind up with Fox Sports, which telecast the U.S. Open for the first time this year to mixed reviews, and has a long-term contract with the United States Golf Association for its major events.
In his final role for CBS, he interviewed winner Jason Day of Australia on the final green last week at The Barclays, which was final event of the golf season for CBS.
Feherty played pro golf for 21 years on the PGA and European tours, and claimed 10 victories in his career.
