Jack Dyer of Cal State Fullerton captured the individual title and led the Titans to seven-stroke victory over Long Beach State in the Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Country Club www.valleyhicc.com in Elk Grove.
The Titans, who claimed their second victory of the season after winning the UCI Anteater Invitational last month, finished with a score of 282-278-287—847, 17-under-par, followed by Long Beach State at 281-283-290—854, Grand Canyon at 287-285-283—855, California Baptist at 284-294-288—866 and Pacific at 284-288-295—867.
Fresno State was sixth at 286-287-295—868, followed by Weber State at 285-284-301—870, UC Santa Barbara at 295-282-294—871, UC Irvine at 292-295-286—873 and host Sacramento State at 294-287-295—876.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo finished 11th at 295-284-301—880.
Dyer (pictured), a junior who led Southend High School for Boys in Essex, England, to the English national championship in 2012, claimed his first college victory with a score of 69-66-71—206, 10-under, followed by Harrison Kingsley of California Baptist at 68-71-68—207, while Hunter Epson of Long Beach State was third at 68-71-69—208, and Tanner Podres of Cal Poly SLO shot 67-66-76—209 to tie for fourth with Filip Lundell of Grand Canyon at 69-71-69—209.
Tyler See of UC Santa Barbara totaled 72-69-69—210 to tie for sixth with Boston Watts of Weber State, who finished at 69-68-73—210, and Derek Castillo of Cal State Fullerton, who wound up at 70-73-68—211.
Ramiz Jamal of UC Irvine shot 71-74-67—212 to tie for ninth with Joe Fryer of Long Beach State, who came in at 69-68-75—212.
Alex Lee led Fresno State in a tie for 11th at 67-73-73—213, while Beau Forest of Pacific was 16th at 75-68-72—215 and Jeff Carr of Sacramento State tied for 17th at 75-69-72-216.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion Cal State Fullerton were Matt Wilson, who totaled 70-72-74—216 to finish in a tie for 17th that included teammate Michael Sharkey, who wound up at 73-69-74—216, while Dalton Daniel tied for 33rd at 73-71-75—219, and Jess Scheller totaled 75-73-72—220 to finish in a tie for 39th that included teammate Matt Rafter, who came in at 78-71-71—220.
