Dugger, Varma Win Sac County Jr. Titles

Luke Dugger of Davis captured the Boys Division and Anika Varma of India won the Girls Division in the 51st Sacramento County Junior Championships at Cherry Island Golf Course www.golfcherryisland.com in Elverta.

Dugger, a recent graduate of Davis High who also captured the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters and has committed to Holy Names University in Oakland, posted a score of 70-69—139, 5-under-par, to win by two strokes over Brady Sivaro of Sacramento, who finished at 71-70—141.

Zac Ruskofsky of Clovis was third at 73-72—145, followed by Jacob Van Roekel of El Dorado Hills at 72-74—146, while Kyle Wesolowski of Penryn shot 72-75—147 to tie for fifth with Chanhee Ryu of Pleasanton 71-76—147.

Zach Mate of Elk Grove was seventh at 77-71—148, while Peter Grimmett of Carmichael totaled 75-74—149 to tie for eighth with Alpiu Esguerra of Alameda, who wound up at 73-76—149, and Matt Haass of Davis was 10th at 76-74—150.

Varma, 15, who won the 2017 All India Junior Girls Championship and now lives in Sacramento, ran away with the Girls’ title by 10 strokes, carding a score of 71-70—141, 3-under, while Yewon Jang of Roseville was second at 74-77—151, followed by Angelica Kjristen Antonio of Benicia at 76-76—152 and Sydney Silva of Castro Valley at 74-79—153.

Hanna Montgomery of Roseville shot 79-78—157 to tie for fifth with Christine Yu of Folsom, who totaled 72-75—157, while Olivia Duan of Cupertino was seventh 78-80—158, followed by Julianna Escobedo of Bakersfield at 79-80—159 and Janea Caparros Oakdale at 84-91—175.

Isabella Morelock of Chico shot 90-91—181 to tie for 10th with Sibina Han of Folsom, who came in at 92-89—181.
