Duan takes West Coast Women’s Am by 2

Michelle Duan of Reno claimed the West Coast Women’s Amateur by two strokes over Caryn Khoo of New Zealand at Bayonet Black Horse Golf Club in Seaside.

The 20-year old Duan, a junior at Cal State Northridge, made a birdie on the 17th hole and closed with a par to earn her second victory in three weeks, also having won the Sacramento City Women’s Championship.

Duan, 20, who was a two-time All-Nevada selection at McQueen High and won the Nevada Women’s Golf Association Amateur Championship the last two years, carded a score of 73-74—147, 3-over-par, to claim the state title after contending last year before tying for sixth.

Khoo, who played at Nevada Reno, was second at 75-74—149, followed by Divya Manthena of Moorpark and USC, who finished at 78-73—151.

Antonia Malate of Seaside shot 79-74—153 to tie for fifth with Elan Hawkins, who totaled 75-78—153, and Aiko Leong of Hawaii, who wound up at 80-73—153.

Sarah Garcia of Turlock was seventh at 77-78—155, followed by Anitra Khoth of Stockton at 76-80—156, Ysabel Tran of Rancho Santa Margarita at 79-78—157 and Michelle Duan, older sister of the winner who also plays at Cal State Northridge and came in at 80-79—159.
