Day on the mend, preps for St. Andrews

Jason Day of Australia was back hitting golf balls earlier this week in preparation for the Open Championship at St. Andrews, two weeks after being diagnosed with Benign Positional Vertigo as he played well, but struggled to a tie for ninth in the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay, his agent said.

Bud Martin of Wasserman Media Group told GolfChannel.com that Day plans to make the trip to Scotland for the third major of the year, which begins July 16.

“We’re moving forward cautiously optimistic,” Martin said.

Day had planned to play last week in the Travelers Championship, but withdrew to rest and recuperate after he collapsed on his final hole of round two at Chambers Bay, but was able to finish the tournament under the care of doctors.

If he is able to play, Day has a busy schedule upcoming, including the RBC Canadian Open the week after the Open Championship, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, the PGA Championship and the FedEx Cup playoffs.
