On Tuesday the Orange County Board of Supervisors followed suit with the Ventura County and Riverside County Supervisors to approve playing golf immediately under restricted guidelines. The Board members were actually more flexible then expected and are allowing some course to use golf carts (with restrictions) if the course feels it’s necessary.
Costa Mesa Mayor Katrina Foley decided to not follow the recommendation of the Orange County Board of Supervisors and said she will be relying on the OC Public Health Director to determine when the courses will open. One quick note, I’m hoping the Orange County Board of Supervisors bothered to ask the OC Director of Public Health if it was safe to reopen golf before they made the decision on Tuesday to reopen the courses?
The Mayor made no statement about if she has had any discussions with the director about reopening the courses, but did say she will be developing a plan to lift restrictions on Costa Mesa parks and other open spaces. At this time, Mayor Foley doesn’t appear to be in rush to make any decisions although both Costa Mesa GC and Mesa Verde CC have gone above and beyond the restriction guidelines of the County Supervisors. It appears Mayor Foley has the control to allow the golf courses in Costa Mesa to reopen or stay closed until she deems the time is right.
