El Paso, TX. (Nov. 23, 2010) – – USD junior Alex Ching (Honolulu, HI) shot his third consecutive 4-under par 67 to post a three-round total of 201 (-12) to win medalist honors at the prestigious 2010 Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas. Ching entered the final round one stroke back of Tain Lee of Claremont Mudd Scripps who closed with a 71 and finished tied for second at 204, along with Georgia Tech’s J.T. Griffin (71-65-68). For the third straight round, Ching totaled 5 birdies to just one bogey, and closed out his day and round with a 32 over the final nine holes. He becomes the first player in tournament history to finish last in the event in the previous year and win the event the next year. With the victory Ching secures an automatic invitation into next year’s tournament.
“Wow, what an impressive win by Alex today,” said 7th-year USD head coach Tim Mickelson. “To beat the best of the best from college golf is an incredible feat. And to do it one year after finishing dead last in the same event, that is quite an impressive turnaround.”

He was just as impressive in the afternoon round as he completed the par 71 course with his second 4-under par 67, again totaling five birdies to just one bogey.
