Daniel Chian of Long Beach State claimed the individual title and helped the 49ers capture a seven-stroke victory over host UC Irvine in the 35th Anteater Invitational at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel.
The 49ers, who came from five shots down in the final round to win their second straight tournament, posted a score of 302-293-296–891, 27-over-par, while the Anteaters finished at 288-302-308–898, followed by Cal State Northridge at 303-302-298–903, Drexel at 298-306-300–904 and Columbia at 292-306–911,
Weber State was sixth at 306-306-310–922, followed by Utah State at 304-310-312–926, Cal State Fullerton at 308-311-308–927, North Dakota State at 313-300-319–932 and Brown at 325-318-320–963.
Chian, a senior from Covina who earned this second title this season and third of his 49er career, birdied four of the first five holes in the final round and wound up with a score of 75-73-69–217, 1-over-par.
Chian’s teammate, Kevin Lee, shot 74-71-74–219 to tie for second with Christopher Crawford of Drexel, who also totaled 74-71-74–219, while Harrison Shi of Columbia was fourth at 80-71-69–220.
Tavit Garabedian of Cal State Northridge posted a score of 74-73-74–221 to tie for fifth with Aaron Fricke of Drexel, who shot 74-77-70–221, while Chris Parkinson of UC Irvine finished at 70-76-77–223 and tied for seventh with his Anteater teammate Jacob Schulze, who came in at 71-73-79–223.
Felix Mory of Cal State Northridge was ninth at 75-74-76–225 and Davis Holeman of Cal State Fullerton rounded out the top 10 at 75-75-75–225.
