Mila Chaves of San Diego State claimed the individual title and led the Aztecs to second place behind UNLV in the Mountain West Conference Women’s Golf Championships on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage.
Chaves, a senior from Paraguay who finished second in the Mountain West tournament as a freshman, carded a score of 72-69-72—213, 3-under-par, while Mackenzie Raim of UNLV was second at 70-73-71—214, followed by Katrina Prendergast of Colorado State at 77-70-69—216, while Celyn Khoo of Nevada shot 75-71-71—217 to tie for fourth with Ellen Secor of Colorado State, who finished at 74-71-72—217.
“I don’t know what it is about this place, but Mila … absolutely loves this course,” San Diego State Coach Leslie Spalding said. “I am so proud of Mila’s performance. Watching her play with us is just so much fun. She loves these greens and can see the putts very well, which really contributed to her win today.”
Ingrid Gutierrez of New Mexico finished at 71-76-72—219 to tie for sixth with Georgia Lacey of San Diego State, who wound up at 74-74-71—219, while Polly Mack of UNLV shot 75-71-74—220 to tie for eighth with Fernanda Escauriza of San Diego State, who came in at 78-74-68—220.
Elizabeth Prior of UNLV totaled 72-74-75—221 to tie for 10th with Alexandra Moisand of New Mexico, who wound up at 74-72-75—221, and Shannon Oh of UNLV, who finished at 72-73-76—221.
Mimi Ho led Fresno State in a tie for 13th at 71-75-76—222 and Abegail Arevalo of San Jose State was 17th at 74-78-73—225.
UNLV claimed the team title with a score of 287-291-294—872, 8-over, followed by San Diego State at 298-292-290—880, Colorado State at 306- 295-294—895, and New Mexico at 298-300-304—902.
Nevada was fifth at 302-295-306—903, followed by San Jose State at 300-315-295—910, Fresno State at 295-309-309—913, Wyoming at 307- 305-315—927, and Boise State at 303-311-316—930.
