Cal State Fullerton Defeats UC Irvine by 5 Shots in Orange County Collegiate

Cal State Fullerton was tied for the lead with UC Irvine after two rounds but pulled away for a five-stroke victory over the Anteaters in the Orange County Collegiate Classic on the South Course at Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club, while Kolbe Irei of UC Irvine took home to the individual title. 

Fullerton, which also won the Nick Watney Invitational in September and had two top-10 finishes during the Fall Season, finished with a score of 298-290-293—881, 17-over par, while UC Irvine was second at 304-284-298—886, followed by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at 301-294-293—898. 

Seattle was fourth at 299-295-300—894, followed by UC Santa Barbara at 320-295-295—910, Cal State Northridge at 308-306-299—913, UC San Diego at 307-304-303—914, UC Riverside at 317-299-300—916, California Baptist at 318-297-310—925 and Central Arkansas at 318-315-300—933. 

Irei, a UC Irvine sophomore from Honolulu, claimed his first college title with a score of 75-68-73—216, even par, while Jack Rahon of Seattle shot 74-73-72—219 to tie for second with Darien Zhao of UC Irvine, who finished at 76-68-75—219, and Nathan Cogswell of Seattle, who wound up at 70-75-74—219. 

Garrett Boe of Cal State Fullerton totaled 75-76-69—220 to tie for fifth with Austin Liu of Cal Poly SLO, who shot 79-69-72—220, Tegan Andrews of Cal State Fullerton, who finished at 75-73-72—220, and Blake McGovern of UC Santa Barbara, who came in at 75-72-73—220. 

Will Draper of Cal Poly SLO carded a score of 80-73-68—221 to tie for ninth with Harry Doig of Cal State Fullerton, who wound up at 77-67-77—221. 

Rounding out the scoring for team champion Cal State Fullerton were Harry Fearn in a tie for 11th at for 25th at 75-77-76—228, Trevor McNary in a tie for 31st at 76-75-79—230, Dylan Walsh in a tie for 55th at 85-78-81—244, Brendan Ashman in a tie for 57th at 88-86-71—245, Jack Smyth in 60th at 88-82-80—250 and Cameron Xao in 61st at 89-88-79—265.
