Cal State East Bay Wins Bay Area Invitational

Cal State East Bay of Hayward claimed the team championship by three strokes over Chico State and Viktor Olund of Concordia in Oregon took home the individual title in the Bay Area Invitational at Ruby Hill Golf Club www.rubyhill.com in Pleasanton.

The Pioneers placed three freshman in the top 10 of the individual standings and won with a score of 293-280-303—876, 15-over-par, followed by Chico State at 290-286-303—879, Cal State Monterey Bay at 295-294-291—880, Concordia at 289-289-305—883 and Sonoma State at 288-292-306—886.

Western Washington was sixth at 302-292-296—890, followed by Holy Names of Oakland at 294-297-309—900, Saint Martin’s at 304-298-304—906, Academy of Art in San Francisco at 290-301-316—907 and Hawaii-Hilo at 299-300-314—913.

Dominican finished 11th at 306-298-312—916, Holy Names’ B team was 14th at 317-301-322—940, and Notre Dame De Namur in Belmont wound up 15th at 313-307-324—944.

Olund, a Concordia freshman from Sweden, claimed his first college title with a score of 74-65-73—212, 4-under, followed by Nicholas Caputo of Chico State at 76-71-67—214, while Ryan Hong of Cal State East Bay shot 69-70-76—215 to tie for third with Jaxson Daskalos of Concordia, who finished at 71-67-77—215.

Spencer Rhodes of Concordia was fifth at 70-71-75—216, while Maximilian Grieb of Cal State Monterey Bay totaled 75-73-71—219 to tie for sixth with Ethan Casto of Western Washington, who wound up at 74-69-76—219, and Myoung Kim of Chico State, who came in at 70-73-76—219.

Maximilian Morris of Sonoma State carded a score of 76-73-71—220 to tie for ninth Elis Svard of Cal State Monterey Bay, who finished at 73-74-73—220, Fraser Owenson of Cal State East Bay, who shot 76-69-75—220, Christopher Colla of Chico State, who totaled 69-73-78—220, and Moses Greene of Cal State East Bay, who wound up at 74-68-78—220.

Ryan Lu led Holy Names by shooting 72-74-76—222 to finish in a tie for 18th that included Matt Fry of Dominican, who finished at 75-70-77—222, while Matthew Watkins of Academy of Art University tied for 33rd at 70-77-78—225, and Chris Steib of Notre Dame De Namur was 51st at 80-76-77—233.

Rounding out the scoring for team champion Cal State East Bay were Jake Malone in a tie for 14th at 74-72-75—221, Joey Herrera in a tie for 18th at 74-73-75—222, Quentyn Kowata in a tie for 49th at 77-77-78—232, Max Murai in a tie for 57th at 78-80-77—235, and Louis D’Aquila in a tie for 72nd at 78-82-81—241.
