Teenagers Jennifer Cai and Leigh Chien of Irvine led local qualifying for the Seventh United States Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta.
The 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur will be played on April 25-29 at Quail Creek Country Club quailcreekcc.com in Naples, Fla.
Cai (pictured left) and Chien (right) posted a score of 2-under-par 70, followed by Vanessa Ho of San Diego and Karen Tsuru of Carlsbad at 71, while Cameron Lee of Tustin and Sabrina Li of Palos Verdes Estates were third at 72.
Anna Davis of Spring Valley and Lucy Yuan of San Diego, and Lauren Gomez of San Diego and Olivia Yun of Carlsbad both finished at 73 to earn the final two spots in a playoff.
Serena Chi and Sriya Mupparaju also finished at 73 and are the No. 1 alternates from the Murrieta qualifier.
In qualifying at Turlock Golf and Country Club, Reona Hirai of Sacramento and Jacqueline Bendrick of Mercer Island, Wash., shot 4-under 68 to tie for medalist honors with Ellie Bushnell of Granite Bay and Kirstin Angosta of Henderson, Nev.
Abigail Leighton of Santa Rosa and Ellie Sand of El Dorado Hills earned the final spot available in Turlock by shooting 69.
Gia Feliciano of Concord and Andrez Gomez Ortizibarra of Mexico finished as first alternates at 71.
At Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, Marissa Mar of San Francisco and Lila Thomas of Dallas recorded a score of 3-under-par 68 to earn the top qualifying spot.
Mar and Thomas both reached the match play portion of the 2019 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, and in 2017 Mar made all the way to the semifinals before losing.
The final to qualifying spots in Fort Worth went to Addison Mitchell of Temple, Texas, and Julia Garcia of Fort Smith, Ark., at 69, and Evelyn Arguelles of Mexico and Hanna Harrison of Plano, Texas, who came in at 70.
At Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby, Ore., Avery and Whitney French of Dana Point, along with Aishvarya Bdei of San Jose and Elizabeth Lu of Los Gatos earned alternate spots with scores of 2-under 70.
At The Apawamis Club in Rye, N.Y., Jennifer Peng of San Diego and Deanna Song of Granger, Ind., finished with alternate status at eve-par 72.
