Briggs Takes L.A. County Amateur by 5

Austin Briggs of San Clemente rolled to a five-stroke victory over Matt Halfon of Agoura Hills in the Los Angeles County Men’s Amateur Championship at Lakewood Golf and Country Club

Briggs, who finished his career at St. John’s University in New York last Spring and recorded five top-10 finishes in Southern California events in recent years, posted a score of 64-68—132, 12-under-par, while Halfon was second at 67-70—137.

Luke Bartram of Cypress shot 68-70—138 to tie for third with Tyler Annear of Huntington Beach, who finished at 66-72—138, while Brian Song of Los Angeles was fifth at 71-68—139, and Erik Liscio of Temecula wound up at 68-72—140 to tie for sixth with Rob Massar of Los Angeles, who was at 72-68—140.

Eli Poppers of San Diego totaled 73-69—142 to tie for eighth with Ken Foor of Whittier, Tongun Lako LoSarah of Upland, and Graham Brockington of Los Angeles, who all came in at 70-72—142.

Logan Miyamoto of Garden Grove captured the A Flight title with a score of 72-75—147, followed by Austin Kirkpatrick of Anaheim at 76-73—149, while James Francisco of Lakewood shot 75-77—152 to tie for third with Ted White of Costa Mesa, who finished at 74-78—152.

Joe Zepeda of Whittier posted a score of 75-80—155 to tie for fifth with Brad Cooper of Garden Grove, who wound up at 76-76—155, while Rocco Minichiello of Costa Mesa finished at 78-78—156 to tie for seventh with Matthew Vogel of Irvine, who totaled 79-77—156.

Bob Davis of La Mirada carded a score of 76-81—157 to tie for ninth with Ernie Anzures of Nuevo, who came in at 81-76—157.

Scott Ueda of Torrance took the C Flight with by shooting 77-86—163, followed by Isaac Parrish, also of Torrance, at 78-87—165, Doug Hutchinson of Costa Mesa at 79-87—166, while John Kobara of South Pasadena shot 86-81—167 to tie for fourth with Tommy Handojo of Long Beach, who finished at 80-87—167.

Miles Bleek Basurto of Fresno was sixth at 86-85—171, followed by Scott Bradbury of Costa Mesa at 82-90—172, while Scott Sakamoto of Palos Verdes Estates totaled 87-87—174 to tie for eighth with Austin Woodworth of North Hills at 85-89—174, and Doug Clifford of Rancho Palos Verdes was 10th at 88-87—175.
