Block-Mendoza Claim SCPGA Pinehurst Title

Michael Block, the 2019 Southern California PGA Player of the Year, picked up right where he left off in the first event that counts in the 2020 point standings.

Block (pictured right), of Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, teamed with Kyle Mendoza (left) of South Hills Country Club in West Covina to win the SCPGA Pinehurst Championship by two strokes over three other teams at Sherwood Country Club www.sherwoodcc.com in Thousand Oaks.

Block and Mendoza carded five birdies and an eagle to post a bogey-free, 6-under-par 66, while Ryan Kennedy of Rustic Canyon Golf Course in Moorpark and Mike Fergin of Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa finished at 68 to tie for second with Bobby Nickell of Arroyo Trabuco and Vinnie Poncino of San Clemente Golf Course, and Michael Griffin of Lomas Santa Fe Country Club in Solana Beach and Logan Scott of Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.

Gary Sowinski of the Hodges Golf Learning Center in Escondido and Chris Starkjohann, a PGA Lifetime Member from Oceanside, shot 69 to tie for fifth with Eric Lohman of Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point and Scott Heyn of The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Adam Baumann and Andrew Alderdice of Newport Beach Country Club, and Jim Petralia of Play Del Rey and Bob Smith of Ventura, both Lifetime PGA Tour Members.

Chris Lungo of Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club and Colin Tucker of The Vintage Club in Indian Wells totaled 70 to tie for ninth with Chris Lempa and Petra Cole of Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, Jeff Cross and Frank Yellem of The Victoria Club, and Jim Gormley and Michael Diette of Palos Verdes Golf Club.
