Bisharat of CS San Marcos Wins Coyote Classic

Ryan Bisharat of Cal State San Marcos claimed the first victory of his college career, winning the Coyote Classic by two strokes over Preston Smith of Colorado School of Mines at Oak Valley Golf Club www.oakvalleygolf.com in Beaumont.

Bisharat, a junior from San Diego, rolled in a tournament-best 16 birdies while posting a score of 65-74-69—208, 8-under-par, followed by Smith at 65-74-71—210, Kobie Lockwood of Stanislaus State at 68-73-72—213, Andrew Banuelos of Cal State Dominguez Hills at 71-75-68—214, Alex Stroes of Redlands at 71-72-72—215 and Fraser Hughes of Colorado State Pueblo at 72-73-71—216.

“Ryan played great this week, and it was really nice to see him break through,” Coach Greg Hutton of Cal State San Marcos said of Bisharat, who captured the 2013 and 2015 San Diego City Conference Match Play Championship and the 2014 San Diego City Conference Stroke Play Championship while playing at Cathedral Catholic High.

“He has worked really hard to get this point, and he deserves this win.”

Brandon Steffins of Cal State San Bernardino posted a score of 78-69-71—218 to tie for seventh with Roy Carlsen of Colorado State Pueblo, who finished at 74-74-70—218, Octavio Guzman of Cal State San Bernardino, who totaled 75-71-72—218, Dylan Hall of Cal State Dominguez Hills, who wound up at 73-69-76—218, Colin Dubnik of Colorado School of Mines, who shot 75-69-74—218, and Ken Kong of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, who came in at 75-70-73—218.

Austin Bishop led Biola with a score of 71-71-79—221 to finish in a tie for 18th that included Hisham Hussein of La Verne, who wound up at 72-75-74—221.

Colorado School of Mines claimed the team title at 289-294-292—875, 11-over-par, followed by Cal State Dominguez Hills at 292-296-290—878, Cal State San Marcos at 287-303-290—880, host Cal State San Bernardino at 301-288-293—882 and Colorado State Pueblo at 296-300-293—889.

Redlands was sixth at 295-305-290—890, followed by Stanislaus State at 296-299-297—892, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 298-301-295—894, La Verne at 301-299-305—905 and Biola at 308-301-308—917.
