Bae hangs on, wins at Silverado

Sang-Moon Bae of South Korea gave away most of a six-stroke lead on the back nine, but held on to win the Frys.com Open by two shots over Steven Bowditch of Australia on the North Course at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa.

Bae, who claimed his second victory on the PGA Tour, carded three bogeys in a span of four holes through No. 14, but righted the ship with four consecutive pars down the stretch and closed with a 1-over-par 73.

“I was a little nervous out there,” admitted Bae, who also won the 2013 HP Byron Nelson Championship. “I don’t know how many three-putts I had. This course wasn’t very easy this week, but I’m very, very happy (to win).”

Bowditch, whose only PGA Tour victory came in March at the Valero Texas Open, closed with a second straight 67 that included a 34-foot eagle putt on the 17th hole.

Hunter Mahan holed his second shot for an eagle from 91 yards on the 13th hole while finishing with a 70 to wind up three strokes back in a tie for third with Bryce Molder (68), Retief Goosen (70) of South Africa, Hideki Matsuyama (70) of Japan and Martin Laird of Scotland (71).
