Amateur Abdulghany wins Cal State Open

Amateur Alyaa Abdulghany, a senior at Corona del Mar High, bested a field of mostly professionals, winning the inaugural Women’s California State Open by one stroke over Jennifer Hahn of Henderson, Nev., on the Champions Course at Morongo Golf Club in Beaumont.

Abdulghany, the CIF State Girls champion who has committed to USC, posted a score of 65-69–134, 10-under-par. The Newport Beach resident collected three of her five birdies on the front nine in the final round and after making her only bogey early on the back nine she held on by finishing with four straight pars.

Hahn wound up at 68-67–135, while Kim Welch of Sherman Oaks was third at 67-70–137, followed by Kaitlin Park of Tustin at 73-67–140.

Liselotte Neumann a 12-time winner on the LPGA Tour from Sweden who now lives in Rancho Mirage, totaled 71-70–141 to tie for fifth with Tisha Abrea of Murrieta, who finished at 72-69–141, and amateur Karah Sanford of Escondido, who shot 69-72–141.

Samantha Postillion of Scottsdale, Ariz., totaled 73-69–142 to tie for eighth with amateur So Young Hwang of Los Angeles, who wound up at 71-71–142, and Savannah Vilaubi of Downey, who came in at 70-72–142.
