Clay Feagler of Pepperdine captured the individual title and helped the Waves chase top-ranked Oklahoma State all the way to the finish before losing by one stroke in The Prestige on the Greg Norman Course at PGA West in La Quinta.
The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after high winds canceled Monday’s round.
The Cowboys collected their fourth victory of the season with a score of 283-284—567, 1-under-par, followed by Pepperdine at 285-283—568, Oregon at 283-288—571, LSU at 287-285—572 and Stanford at 286-287—573.
Northwestern was sixth at 286-291—577, followed by San Francisco at 291-293—584, East Tennessee State at 294-295—589 and USC at 296-293—589, while the Stanford B team posted a score of 298-298—596 to tie for 10th with Iowa State, which came in at 297-299—596.
UC Davis was 12th at 300-297—597 and San Diego State was 13th at 301-300—601.
Feagler, a sophomore from Laguna Nigel, claimed his first college victory with a score of 69-66—135, 5-under, followed by Norman Xiong of Oregon and Canyon Lake, Calif., at 68-68—136 and Luis Gagne of LSU at 70-68—138.
Justin Suh of USC shot 71-69—140 to tie for fourth with Viktor Hovland of Oklahoma State, who totaled 69-71—140, and Zach Bauchou, also of Oklahoma State, who wound up at 70-70—140.
Sahith Theegala of Pepperdine carded a score of 69-72—141 to tie for seventh with Isaiah Salinda of Stanford, who wound up at 72-69—141, and Brandon Baumgarten of UC Davis, who came in at 75-66—141.
Thomas Hutchison of UC Davis shot 72-71—143 to tie for 10th with Ryan Gronlund of Oregon (73-70—143), Joshua McCarthy of Pepperdine (73-70—143), Franklin Huang of Stanford (68-75—143), Ryan Lumsden of Northwestern (72-71—143), Sam Triplett of Northwestern at 67-76—143, Alex Chin of San Francisco at (72-71—143), and Kristoffer Ventura of Oklahoma State at 69-74—143.
Christian Banke led San Diego State in a tie for 33rd at 71-76—147.
