Cal’s Limbhasut wins by 1 at Ka’anapali

K.K. Limbhasut of California shot 5-under-par 66 and held off Scott Stevens of South Carolina to win the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic Invitational by one stroke at Royal Ka’anapali Golf Club in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.

Limbhasut, a junior from Loma Linda, collected birdies on the second third and sixth holes before making an eagle on the ninth hole and finishing with nine straight pars.

“I couldn’t ask for a better way to finish my fall season,” said Limbhasut, who claimed his second victory of the Fall Season and fourth of his Cal career. “I feel like my game is trending in the right direction. I had a really good fall and played really well in the last three events, but I still have some parts of my game that I want to sharpen up for spring.

“We had a good fall season but there is still a lot of room to improve in the spring. We know what we have to work on in order to compete for a national title.”

Limbhasut posted a score of 67-68-66—201, 12-under, while Stevens was second at 65-68-69—202, followed by Andy Spencer of Kansas at 68-65-70—203 and Will Miles of South Carolina at 66-72-66—204.

Collin Morikawa of Cal totaled 64-68-73—205 to tie for fifth with Jacob Bergeron of LSU, who finished at 69-67-69—205, Philip Barbaree of LSU, who wound up at 67-68-70—205, and Sahith Theegala of Pepperdine, who came in at 66-72-67—205.

Brian Humphreys of Boise State shot 64-72-70—206 to tie for ninth with George Gardner of Houston, who finished at 68-69-69—206, and Spencer Ralston of Georgia, who wound up at 68-69-69—206.

Riley Elmes led Loyola Marymount in a tie for 27th at 66-72-75—213 and Devyn Fitchhorn of Sacramento State tied for 36th at 70-73-73—216.

LSU claimed the team title with a score of 268-275-278—821, 31-under, followed by South Carolina at 268-279-281—828, Cal at 266-280-283—829, Kansas at 277-275-281—833 and Houston at 275-283-284—842.

Georgia was sixth at 276-285-286—847, followed by Pepperdine at 276-296-278—850, Boise State at 275-295-282—852, Kent State at 272-297-290—859 and Connecticut at 279-293-290—862.

Loyola Marymount tied for 14th at 287 -291 -296 —874 and Sacramento State at 287 -303 -298 —888.
