UCLA rallied in the final round to win the Stanford Intercollegiate for the second straight year and Patty Tavatanakit of the Bruins shared the individual title with Andrea Lee of Stanford in the 22nd Stanford Intercollegiate Hosted by Dr. Condoleeza Rice at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
The third-ranked Bruins gave Coach Carrie Forsyth the 63rd victory of her career with a score of 288-286-275—849, 3-under-par, while host Stanford was second at 280-287-285—852, followed by Northwestern at 296-280-289—865, California at 295-289-296—880 and San Jose State at 293-296-295—884.
Washington was sixth at 291-293-301—885, followed by Oklahoma State at 300-291-295—886, Pepperdine at 297-290-303—890, Iowa State at 301-290-302—893 and Oregon at 299-293-303—895.
UC Davis finished 11th at 294-301-304—899, the Stanford B team was 13th at 302-296-308—906 and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was 14th at 299-306-303—908.
Lee, a sophomore from Hermosa Beach, birdied the last two holes to claim the fifth title of her Stanford career with a score of 69-71-67—207, while Tavatanakit, a freshman from Thailand, earned her first title by equaling Lee with a score of 70-70-67—207.
Hannah Kim of Northwestern was third at 66-70-72—208, while Albane Valenzuela of Stanford shot 70-70-71—211 to tie for fourth with Cardinal teammate Mika Liu, who totaled 68-72-71—211.
Bethany Wu of UCLA totaled 71-72-70—213 to tie for sixth with Bruin teammate Lilia Vu, who wound up at 73-70-70—213.
Jiyoon Jang of California posted a score of 75-68-72—215 to tie for eighth with Wenyung Keh of Washington, who finished at 68-72-75—215 and Sarah Cho of Northwestern, who came in at 74-71-70—215.
Franziska Friedrich led San Jose State in a tie for 15th at 69-76-73—218, while Katherine Zhu of Pepperdine tied for 21st at 72-75-74—221, Jamie Binns of Cal Poly tied for 23rd at 71-73-78—222 and Christine Danielsson of UC Davis tied for 28th at 72-73-78—223.
Rounding out the scoring for team champion UCLA were Mariel Galdiano in solo 11th at 74-74-68—216, and Clare Legaspi in a tie for 39th at 74-74-78—226.
